Why I buy paperbacks I’ll never read

I listen to a lot of my fiction and nonfiction via audiobook these days.

Between playing dad to a teething toddler and a newborn… being the most charming man Lady Laura could ever ask for… AND the leader of not just the Legion, but a starving corner of the fantasy market that wants fast-paced epics without the fluff…

It’s the only way I can sustain my literary nutritional requirements these days.

And as 94% of fantasy novels are more than several hundred pages long, audiobooks allow me to overcome much of the procrastination that comes with leaping into a tome.

But here’s a little quirk of mine:

If I thoroughly enjoy an audiobook, I’ll buy the paperback as a “trophy” to keep on my bookshelf.

Sounds weird, I know.

Sci-fi author Nathaniel Eliason (author of Husk) said something similar some time ago about this, and it really resonated. Say D.J.J. Watson sent you if you ever pick up his book.

Does this mean I dive into these “trophies” and re-read them as they arrive?

In 90% of cases, no for reasons already stated at the top.

It’s just a nice visual reminder of a story or biography that resonated with me, and something I can physically refer to friends or family on the rare occasions I invite them over.

Anyway, for years, Patrons of mine have asked me the age-old question:

“When will the paperbacks come out, thy Overlord & thy Saviour?”

And for years, my reply was pretty pathetic:

“Not sure.”

Well, you can imagine the squeals of excitement when I revealed back in September that the paperbacks for The Divided Region were — at long last — available exclusively at my Storehouse.

So whether you want to re-read the story in its matte-finished, cream-paged glory…

Or to simply adorn your bookshelf with five new trophies, you can do so by going here:

But be warned:

Do NOT expect Amazon Prime shipping times.

My print-on-demand partner doesn’t have access to their lightning-fast delivery infrastructure, but do you know what they DO have?

Printers that produce industry-leading, quality paperbacks that not even the Mighty Zon can compete with at their scale.

So if speed is a problem, then pass this offer up.
