“What if I look like an idiot?”
“What if it proves I know nothing about X?”
For a long time, I was hampered by thoughts like this, and something tells me I'm not alone in this.
(We may be members of the Legion, but we’re still plagued with a mortal’s blood.)
Admittedly, Debbie Doubter still occasionally haunts my thoughts, especially during the middle and end of a project, with many of my author friends encountering similar obstacles, but here's the thing…
Books flop.
So do music, movies, interviews, meetings, and in a more personal sense, dates, relationships, marriages, etc.
In other words…
Shit happens, Legionnaire.
We’ve just got to get up, dust ourselves off, and ideally, grow from it.
Why this email has suddenly become a Ted Talk on self-empowerment bewilders me, but if there's one thing I know having done 34 rotations around the Sun, it's that doubt of any kind or creed is the fastest way of killing off good ideas.
There were many times I wanted to stop writing The Divided Region.
In fact, after Last Alliance, I went on a year-long hiatus before finally forcing myself back into the writer’s corner to craft One True King and the fifth instalment (which shall be named soon).
Fans of the series deserved that much.
The story, Darius, and his ragtag band of sidekicks demanded that much.
