Uh-oh

It was 3:30 AM, and that only means one thing in the Watson household…

NAPPY TIME 👶

Every parent knows it’s like playing a game of Russian roulette, only worse. Move them too much, and they will wake up. Rip the nappy off too quickly, and they could stir. Even so much as whisper to each other, and you might as well kiss bye-bye to the next couple hours of sleep if your little one is a keen listener.

At least with Russian roulette, you get infinite sleep should you fire a round into your temple.

Anyway, back to the story:

So Laura gently rolled Master Liam over to his side when a sudden, heart-stopping sound left his lips…

“UH-OH.”

We both looked at each other and shook our heads, eyes bulging from our sockets. It’s not uncommon for him to laugh and whoop in his sleep, but to speak?

“Is he awake?” I ask, not wanting to know the answer.

Laura leans over him and stays there for what I can only describe as an age. When she craned herself back upright, she turned to me and shook her head.

“You mean… he’s asleep?” I struggle to contain my excitement. “Does his nappy feel full?”

She shakes her head.

“Then abort, abort, abort!” I decree.

So, we did.

You see, sometimes you’ve got to quit while you’re barely ahead, even if that means risking a leaky nappy. There’s no shame in occasionally abandoning a task, but sometimes… there is.

And depending on what it is, it can potentially come with dire consequences.

Case in point:

There’s this one moment in The Great Betrayal where some of Darius’ companions abandon him (I won’t say who — you’ll have to find out for yourself) at a time when he SORELY needs them.

At best, this act is treason.

At worst, it’s a bitter betrayal that threatens to set off a chain of reactions at a time when he can ill-afford such things.

If you would like to read about this moment in all of its treacherous detail, you can find it in Chapter 7.

And if you haven’t grabbed The Great Betrayal yet?

You can fix that here: 😉
