How on Earth are we staring down Halloween?
The year is basically over now, especially here in the UK as we ready ourselves to roll the clocks back and usher in those dark mornings and early evenings.
Yay!
Anyway, I'm feeling much better today. In fact, we all are. The Watson household has mostly recovered from whatever black magic was unleashed upon us, in no small part due to overdosing on Vitamin C and D3/K2 (not medical advice).
More importantly…
I was able to pick up my proverbial quill yesterday and produce prose that didn't waft of sewage. 🥳
So that's good.
However, as miserable a week as it has been in parts, if there's one good thing to come out of the suffering, it's this week's theme for Fun Fact Friday.
So, let's kick it off with the first fun fact…
Did you know…
A sneeze can launch germs at speeds of up to 100 mph and send them as far as 26 feet? Those droplets can also hang in the air for several minutes.
(Perhaps social distancing wasn't so bad after all.)
Did you know…
More than 200 different viruses can cause the common cold? Rhinoviruses are the most common culprits, which is why there's no single vaccine for the cold, as immunity to one type doesn't protect you from the others.
(Perhaps scientists should enlist the help of rhino poachers. They have an extraordinary gift for cowardly killing these majestic creatures for their horns… maybe they can de-horn the Rhinovirus instead.)
Did you know…
Viruses aren't fully alive? They can't reproduce or carry out functions of a living organism. They have to invade a living cell and hijack its machinery to make more copies of themselves.
(Sounds an awful lot like A.I. 👀)
Did you know…
Your body is home to trillions of bacteria? Yes, you didn't misread that — trillions.
(And nobody has thought to charge them rent?)
Did you know…
Flu viruses mutate so quickly that the seasonal flu vaccine has to be updated every year?
(Doctors really are there for us, flu thick and thin.)
And there you have it…
Five wholly unsanitised facts about germs that might just motivate you to scoop up that cloudy ginger shot next time you visit the supermarket.
If for whatever reason you fancy buying your daily host one of those torrid shots, you can do so here:
Have a great weekend, Legionnaire. Stay classy.
