I’m often reminded by Lady Laura that I sling a lot of names and titles in these emails.
(There’s always one dissenter!)
Like you, she enjoys these emails and the names I bestow on trolls and troops of the Legion, but maybe… just maybe she has a point on this one.
On the back of her concerns and that of a recent Liegeling, I’ve decided to compile all of the lore into one tidy email. This one. I’ve also decided to make this mandatory reading for all new recruits of our exclusive cult.
ahem
I mean… clan.
Like any good running story, however, the lore will likely expand, and as such, I shall update you of any changes.
(As I’m typing away, I wonder whether I should compile a downloadable “Lore Sheet” that updates automatically when said changes occur. Reply to let me know what you think.)
With no further ado, Legionnaire, Liegeling, or Orc hiding amongst our ranks, I present to you the Lore of the Legion:
===========
The Legion:
+ Liegelings – Fresh recruits, new to the Legion. Fresh off the turnip truck.
+ Legionnaires – Battle-hardened subscribers who have stuck around and know the ways of the Legion.
+ Loyal Patrons – The most dedicated of all—those who have put gold in your coffers by buying your wares.
The Outsiders:
+ Drifters – Wanderers who pass through, perhaps reading a few emails but never truly joining the ranks. These nomads never cause trouble, but they never stay either.
+ Sleepers – The unaware masses. People who have yet to discover the Legion, our ways, and my wares. Potential recruits — if they ever wake up.
The Orcs (Haters & Trolls):
+ Huffers — These orcs are the hit-and-run types. They leave a weak insult, an eye-roll emoji, or some limp-wristed snark before vanishing into obscurity. Like a gob of spit on the battlefield, they land, but no one remembers them.
+ Snarlers — These orcs have a little more grit. They don’t just insult and run; they linger, snapping back at any response. They thrive on attention, hoping to drag you into their pit of negativity.
+ Trophy Troll — The prize hater. The unhinged beast. They compose sprawling walls of vitriol, dripping with projection and self-loathing. Ironically, they are my greatest marketing gift, as their rants rally Legionnaires and provide endless entertainment for us all.
+ The Orc Mines — A festering pit where trolls toil endlessly, sharpening their insults to a dull edge and repeating the same trite in a desperate bid for relevance. None ever return unscathed.
Nobility:
+ Lord Watson — Some say he’s not real. Some say he over-exaggerates. What I do know is that those who question their Overlord and Saviour too loudly tend to disappear. Lyara sees to that.
+ Lady Laura — My long-suffering partner who convinced me this fiction gig was a suitable channel for my vast (and sometimes unhinged) imagination.
+ Master Liam — The Heir to the Legion. Small but fierce, our son commands the nights with relentless cries. Though extremely young, his will is iron, and his rule is inevitable.
+ Lyara — Chief enforcer and brutaliser of Liegelings. Those who defy the Legion soon learn of her methods. She doesn’t just silence dissent—she ensures it is never spoken of again. She also features in The Divided Region, carving her legend in blood from Book #5 onward.

And there you have it.
The Lore of the Legion, enshrined in your inbox and perhaps a single downloadable sheet one day.
In case you cannot tell, I love lore.
It’s something I can’t wait to indulge in whenever I dive into a new fantasy or sci-fi world.
The problem is, I like my lore in bite-size chunks – sprinkled in over chapters and sequels. Readers of The Divided Region will know this by the way I have carefully woven in the history of Estos and that of its two dominating Houses.
You’ll find no info dumps here.
Only fast-paced, thrilling, and digestible stories that can be read in as little as 2-3 hours each.
