On Monday, I told the story of the Sycamore Gap tree — cowardly felled by two gormless twats thirsting for attention — and how it's starting to rise back up again like a phoenix.
A nice story, even if sycamores are apparently known for their stubborn resilience.
But in that email, I also mentioned an illness that had swept the Watson household.
It claimed Laura's voice for the past few days, which was a great tragedy, let me tell you. Nathan's temperature started to rocket, Liam eventually succumbed to the same symptoms, and your Overlord & Saviour mostly got away unscathed save for a few intense headaches.
Famous last words, let me tell you.
No sooner had I sent off that email, my back grew stiffer, my skin turned clammy, and I knew immediately that whatever claimed them had finally done so with me.
It has been quite an insufferable time.
Wholly insufferable!
I've stocked up on fruits high in Vitamin C, and I'm popping all manner of supplements in a bid to fend off this uninvited guest. I like to think that every time I chug down one of those suckers, I'm parachuting troops into a battlefield; only the battle is far from being over.
Even my ability to string together comprehensive sentences has become an almighty challenge.
Take this email:
On the surface, it might read perfectly fine to you, but in reality, I've probably rewritten each paragraph about twenty times.
TWENTY TIMES!
So I've begrudgingly had to step away from TDR Book 7 until this passes, which has NOT been fun. Ask any scribe, and they'll tell you that whenever you have to step away from a project, scenes can become less vivid and characters grow quieter.
Luckily, that hasn't happened to me.
If anything, I can't get the cast of TDR to shut up!
Anyway, here's to hoping this bugger passes soon so I can get back to my happy place of writing fiction and these daily musings.
Until then, I've got two unwell children to tend to.
Wish us luck!
