“I like the story. Can I have my money back?”

So, last Sunday, I received my second refund request in nearly a thousand orders at my Storehouse alone.

(If that tells you anything about my fictional wares.)

Yet, unlike some of my peers who offer no returns for digital products like ebooks and audiobooks, I went the opposite way.

Not only do I offer a generous guarantee for all of my books…

I OFFER IT FOR TWO WHOLE MONTHS!

That's more than Amazon or any other book retailer, for that matter.

And I do this for precisely dos razones—I mean, two reasons:

(Whoops, let some of that Spanish heritage slip for a momento.)

Firstly, if someone wants their money back, I am not about to go to war for what, in the grand scheme of things, isn't a tonne of money.

Just isn't my style.

Secondly, the nature of fiction is that you're not going to appeal to everyone. While I could go toe-to-toe with some of the best narcissists around, even my ego won't allow me to believe my work is going to appeal to everyone.

Yup.

Despite spending a lot of time in fantasy realms, I am also, begrudgingly, from the real world.

That's why I took no issue refunding this now ex-Patron:

I would like to say I liked the story UNTIL I got to the curse words, I don't watch show/movies that curse in them so I am not going to read books with them either. I am sorry you added them as i would have enjoyed the books. So I saw I could get a full refund it I didn't like your books for any reason. I would like to ask for that now. IF you do any with OUT the cuss words let me know.

While I am quite restrained with swearing throughout the series (I'm confident Book 6 doesn't have a single contemporary curse word), I get that even a few rude words can exceed some people's thresholds.

The refund was granted within an hour of receiving this email, and both sides bid the other a fond farewell.

I don't know where else I'm going with this email other than this:

If you can't stomach the occasional bit of crude or crass language, then you might want to pass on The Divided Region.

But if you possess a mild tolerance of it…

Then you might just like the series.

(Hell, even our refunder admitted they enjoyed it up until the curse words.)

And if not?

You're backed by a 60-day-love-it-or-leave-it guarantee.
