I learned a hard truth yesterday

Yesterday, Lady Laura and I took the boys to a local shopping mall for lunch at The Big Easy.

It's a popular BBQ smokehouse chain known for its tender beef brisket, sweet pickles, chunky fries, and thick milkshakes.

What's not to love?

Well, I'll tell you what:

My love handles.

You see, an hour earlier, I wanted to test the fit of some jumpers in a shop, so as you do, I went to the changing rooms.

Big mistake.

I was immediately accosted by three tall mirrors hanging adjacent to each other, which then went on to expose some of the most unflattering angles of myself that I've ever had the displeasure of seeing.

No matter which way I turned, I couldn't avoid the 'wobble wobble' around my waistline.

And I'll be honest, it left me stunned and second-guessing our choice for lunch.

I might have joked before about pursuing the ultimate dad bod, but this?

This almost knocked Christmas dinner out of me.

It's funny how a different angle, a different perspective, can tell you something about yourself that you a) either didn't know, or b) neglected to see.

And sometimes, the truth lands especially hard.

Like it did for me yesterday.

It seems your Overlord & Saviour has some festive timber to shed… asap!

Speaking of hard truths:

Another one I recently learned (to the tune of hundreds of dollars in gift cards):

Never, ever publicly announce a deadline (even a vague one) unless you're 100% certain of fulfilling it.

Yup, rookie move on my part.

I ended up sending out over $400 in gift cards to those who replied to my 'apology' email. Many more didn't claim their $10 gift card because they either didn't read the email or didn't want it.

(If you're one such person, refrain from replying, for the deadline has long passed.)

BUT that doesn't mean you cannot get your hands on a gift card.

No, no.

It just means you'll need to pay for it. 😉

On the plus side…

It's delivered instantly. 😬

So if you've ever wanted to gift my ebooks, audiobooks, or paperbacks to friends or family, this solves that problem.

In the meantime, I've got salad to eat and a Pilates class to get out of.
