Most people's immediate response would be a resounding “no.”
However, I guess this question lacks proper context.
Let's try a couple of examples:
Do you enjoy being scared when home alone?
Probably not, unless you're one of those freaky types whom I oddly have a tendency to attract and build affinity towards.
What about this one:
Do you enjoy being scared when reading a horror novel or watching a movie?
Ah, now I see your shoulders relaxing!
For those of us who don't mind the odd horror movie or book, many would say, "yeah," or thereabouts.
You see, context matters.
But so does honesty.
That's why whenever I promote The Curse of Abbey Ruins duology, I've long held my hands aloft and admitted the writing is a little rough around the edges.
What can I say…
I was wet behind the ears back then.
The story itself is great, and I had a whale of a time writing it (even if it did afford me a few night terrors in the process), but yes…
The prose isn't as tight as it is today.
The same will be true of the prose I write now versus tomorrow.
Luckily, books aren't remembered so much for their writing.
They are remembered for how they made you feel.
And if you enjoy fast-paced supernatural thrillers that make you want to sleep with the light on, then there's a good chance you'll like this duology.
It's currently only available as an e-book, but once The Divided Region is concluded, adding the paperback and audiobook editions is on my ever-growing to-do list.
But unlike TDR, you cannot find this at any retailer.
