It seems my recent marketing efforts are proving fruitful.
Not only are my fictional wares flying off their digital shelves, but most importantly, we’ve had a horde of fresh faces be “warmly” greeted by Lyara and I. 😈
To those, I say…
“Welcome.”
You’ll have to endure a number of my musings until you are just as jaded as the rest of us to qualify as Legionnaire. But that’s a proposition for another day. I figured this would be as good a time as any to remind everyone of the characters and lore of the Legion.
With no further ado, here it is:
The Heroes:
+ Liegelings – Fresh recruits right off the back of the turnip wagon.
+ Legionnaires – Battle-hardened subscribers who have stuck around and endured my musings long enough to know (with precision) my mealtimes.
+ Loyal Patrons – The most dedicated of all — those who have put gold into the Legion and purchased my wares.
The Neutrals:
+ Drifters – Wanderers who pass through, perhaps reading a few emails but never truly joining the ranks of Legionnaire. These nomads never cause trouble, but they never participate either.
+ Sleepers – The unaware masses. People who have yet to discover the Legion and our unruly ways.
The Villains:
+ Orcs — These are the hit-and-run types that leave a weak insult, an eye-roll emoji, or some limp-wristed snark before vanishing into obscurity. Some will dig their pikes in, but almost without exception, most melt under a burning gaze. Like a gob of spit on the battlefield, they land, but no one remembers them.
+ Cave Trolls — These are the prize haters; the unhinged beasts. They compose sprawling walls of vitriol — dripping with projection and self-loathing — and plaster them on comments and in these very emails. Ironically, they are my greatest marketing gift, as their rants rally Legionnaires, provide endless entertainment, and generate plenty of (free) book sales.
+ The Mines — A festering pit where trolls and orcs toil endlessly, sharpening their insults to a dull edge and repeating the same trite in a desperate bid for relevance. Few ever return unscathed after taking a shot at the Overlord. Speaking of Overlord…
Nobility:
+ Lord Watson — Some say he’s not real. Some say he over-exaggerates. What I do know is that those who question their Overlord and Saviour too loudly tend to disappear. Lyara sees to that. 😉
+ Lady Laura — My long-suffering partner who convinced me this fiction gig was a suitable channel for my vast (and sometimes fanatical) imagination.
+ Master Liam — The Heir to the Legion. Small but fierce, our son commands the nights with relentless cries. Though extremely young, his will is iron, and his rule is inevitable.
+ Master Bump — The Second Heir to the Legion when he finally emerges into the world. Hopefully, he’ll keep his older brother in check.
+ Lyara — Chief enforcer and brutaliser of Liegelings. Those who defy the Legion soon learn of her methods. She doesn’t just silence dissent—she ensures it is never spoken of again. She also features in The Divided Region, carving her legend in blood from Book #5 onward.
And there you have it.
The Lore of the Legion is enshrined in your inbox forever.
Read it. Study it. Revere it.
(Just don’t hang it on a lemonade stand.)
And in case this email wasn’t blatantly obvious, I love lore.
It’s something I can’t wait to learn whenever I dive into a new fantasy or sci-fi world, but there is one issue. I like my lore in bite-size chunks – sprinkled in over chapters and sequels as opposed to piles of pages.
If that rings true with you too, then you might just enjoy The Divided Region:
