Bath time isn’t just a time to rest, relax, and frolic in the bubbles…
It’s also a time when I power on the iPad and disappear down some rabbit holes — new and old.
One such rabbit I visit from time to time is that of:
Earl Nightingale.
Earl was quite the guy. Not only did he pioneer the self-help industry that is worth roughly $45-50 billion today, but he was also the first to sell over a million copies of a spoken-word recording (essentially an audiobook) way back in 1956, earning his work, The Strangest Secret, Gold Record status.
What’s the strangest secret, you ask?
At its core, it is built on the following concept…
"We become what we think about."
Too woo-woo for you?
Well, you’ll be pleased to know that this isn’t the only nugget Earl bestowed on us plebeians. There is one other piece of advice he shared that, ever since I heard it, clicked in a way no other piece of philosophy ever has.
In fact, I ruthlessly apply it to everything from what I eat to the stuff I watch, and even to the way I run this little fiction racket I’ve got going on here.
I’m so brazen to say that if you also imbibe this piece of wisdom I am about to share with you, you might just never make another mistake so long as you live.
Bold claim?
Oh yeah.
But like any piece of knowledge, it is only as useful as the man or woman who wields it.
(Paraphrased:)
“When you’re not sure what to do, take a look around at what everyone else is doing, then do the opposite, and you’ll probably never make another mistake for as long as you live.”
Read it again, Legionnaire.
Again and again until it prunes your skin like the countless baths I had spent listening to his work.
There is no limit to its application, no area of your life it cannot be adopted.
It’s the reason I send daily newsletters as opposed to monthly ones. It’s the reason I push my Storehouse over retailers. And it’s also the reason I write short, fast-paced epic fantasy novels as opposed to the tomes that proliferate the genre.
While I can’t promise you’ll see immediate “Night” and day results (get it? Night-ingale? 😬) by applying Earl’s teachings, one thing I do promise is that the fifth instalment of The Divided Region series is jam-packed with adventure, survival, high stakes, otherworldly beasts, and plot twists you’ll not see coming.
And should it disappoint, you have a 30-day window to claw back your silver.
The book in question is called The Great Betrayal.
