In response to last Monday's email where I announced — quite proudly — how The Divided Region doesn't have dragons, complicated magic systems, or shape-shifting elves who like to romp every fairy in the forest…
I received quite the slew of replies.
Some disagreed, stating how they appreciate the complexity of magic systems and worlds that span thousands of pages.
No grudges there.
They shall see the light soon enough.
However, 95% overwhelmingly agreed that easy-to-read, smut-free fantasy (the kind I specialise in) is the pickle that tickles their Kindles.
Or ears…
Or fingers…
Okay. I'll stop now before things get weird and X-rated.
Among the replies, I also scooped up some praise, which seasoned readers will know I'm never humble enough to refuse.
Take this from a fellow Legionnaire and Patron (whose name I've redacted as I wasn't sure if they thirsted for the limelight):
THANK YOU! I am so tired of dragons… nothing new has been developed around them.
THANK YOU! If I wanted romance I would read romance.
THANK YOU! For not having elves cloned from Tolkien. I've already read them.
THANK YOU! If I wanted to read about the years on mental imagery, fancy hand work, or cultivating earthly energy I would read the kabbala.
Keep writing. You have a gift. I've already bought all your books and extras.
Never a dull day around here, I tell ya.
As I told this faithful reader:
THE PLEASURE IS ALL MINE.
And it is.
Entertaining my lords and ladies has become quite the sport for me.
Long may it continue.
If you'd like to experience my "gift" for yourself, where you need not worry about the main character suddenly getting shirtless…
Or whipping out his wand while dragons soar overhead…
