It's been 24 hours since Among Wolves took its first breath, and the response so far has been great.
While there hasn't been any feedback on the story itself yet — though I imagine that will change in the coming hours and days — there has been no shortage of excitement:

Got mine. Shipping cost is more then twice the book cost.. WOW. But well worth it. We do what we do.

It was precisely at this moment my smug grin turned upside down, and I broke into a cold sweat.
I immediately rushed to my Storehouse and placed a dummy order, smashing the checkout button only to see…
Shipping: $31.87
"What in Mordor…" my voice trailed off. "For a $16.99 product! What devilry is this?"
Listen, I know inflation is real.
The cost of just about everything has taken a trip north in the last five years, but this?
This carried a pungent waft.
And if that wasn't mortifying enough, MORE paperback sales were rolling in despite these outrageous fees.
So what gave rise to this crookery?
Well, after a bit of digging, and without getting too technical, the short story is:
About a year ago, I tweaked the shipping settings in my Storehouse to follow my printing partner's recommendations. For the most part, it has worked flawlessly.
Until yesterday, that is.
As I wrestled a to-do list longer than the Epstein files to make sure everything went off without a hitch, I neglected something important:
Syncing the new paperback with the shipping module.
Worse still, it is quite literally just a little bloody checkbox.🤦🏻♂️
And that's why Patrons were stung with exorbitant shipping fees when, in reality, most should not have paid more than $5.99.
Unless, of course, they live in the tundra.
(In which case, can I visit?)
Anyway, I've since issued full shipping refunds to each paperbacker at my own expense.
It was my mistake to own, and I shall do so gracefully.
The last thing I want is for my lords and ladies to think I'm exploiting their emotional investment in The Divided Region to line my own pockets.
**shudders**
However, if there is a positive to take from this hiccup, it's that many people paid twice the book's cost just for shipping.
If that isn't a testament to the series, I sure as hell don't know what is.
Right, I need to get out of here before Lady Laura thinks I'm up to no good.
