A question that has hung over me for longer than I'm proud to admit is:
Why are weather forecasters able to keep their jobs despite failing miserably at it?
It's quite an astonishing feat when you think of it.
If anyone else with an honest job had a success rate of 20% (at best), they'd get the famous Lord Alan Sugar treatment from The Apprentice (UK version):

In other words:
“You’re fired!”
Another job that seemingly goes unchallenged is those in our governments. And no, I'm not going to get too political here. I'm just saying that — notwithstanding unexpected pandemics or sudden catastrophic events — is it really that unreasonable to demand consequences when a prez or prime minister fails to deliver on their manifesto?
I believe there's a term for this type of deception in the real world.
Oh yeah…
SCAMMERS!
I'm not necessarily saying they should be prosecuted (though I certainly wouldn't oppose it), but there really needs to be a governing body FOR our governing body, and punishments should carry weight.
Here's one idea:
If a party fails to fulfil a certain percentage of their promises, they should lose seats in Parliament or the equivalent.
Another one:
Donations could be capped at 50% in the next election.
Or, more brutally:
They can be prohibited from contesting altogether.
These carry real-world consequences that might just light a fire under their you-know-whats to actually, you know, deliver on their pledges.
Now, I know I'm oversimplifying a lot.
I am fully aware that there are roadblocks and opposition that slow down and, in some cases, halt new policies from ever being pushed out by the government.
I'm merely having a good, old-fashioned moan.
Take it with a pinch of Himalayan salt.
Just seems a bit unfair to me that it's okay for some folks to be overwhelmingly bad at their jobs while everyone else is expected to keep their hands dirty and their beaks clean.
Can you imagine if I said I write classic epic fantasy, and what you find hiding between the pages is a bunch of shape-shifting wolves that female leads fawn over?
You'd be rightly pissed off.
Anyway, I don't know where else I'm going with this, other than you can rest assured… I'll never sell you snake oil.
If I say I promise something, I will do my level best to deliver it.
So when I say I write classic epic fantasy…
I mean it.
And I can 100% assure you that there are no shape-shifting sugar daddies or randy elves in The Divided Region.
Just fantasy with magic systems you'll understand, lore that won't overwhelm, and characters that are far from perfect.
There are also romantic subplots, but they do not dominate or steer the storyline.
If any of the above sounds like something you'd vote for, you'll find a nice easterly breeze here:
