I try to get out for a walk as much as I possibly can, which — in contrast to a few short years ago, pre-fatherhood — is pretty abysmal.
(Especially when I'm knee-deep in a writing project like I am now with Book Seven of The Divided Region.)
Alas, when I do finally get around to these walks, I'm reminded why they're so damn important.
Stress drops off a jagged cliff…
Answers to problems suddenly arrive unbidden…
And there's just a genuine sense of peace.
Anyway, Self-Help-Daniel aside, I often find that on these walks, the greatest challenge isn't so much how many steps I can get in, but doing my level best to avoid a short little detour to the local express store.
Most times, I return home triumphant.
The other day, however… not so much.
Before I knew it, I had swapped a field of grass for dazzling LED lights and deals that tried to pry open my wallet.
Well, one such deal did:
Two fresh pizzas and a tub of Ben & Jerry's for £4 (circa $5.50 in today's US dollar).
Admittedly, I got an extra pound off for being a member, but even at £5 ($6.50), it was still a steal and a half.
For the shortest, shallowest breath, I glanced at the newspapers declaring yet another UK economic death spiral and muttered:
"What inflation?"
Then I saw the price of fruit, vegetables, and meat, and the world of quantitative easing wrapped a big, burly arm around the back of my neck and gave it a hearty squeeze.
Sigh.
On the plus side, the pizzas and ice cream were good.
You've got to celebrate the wins where you can get them these days, and as of right now, one win you can bag from my store is The Divided Region digital bundle.
Not only do you save a coin by grabbing Books 1-6 in one go, but you also get two bonuses that aren't available anywhere else.
This might be a detour worth taking:
