A couple of nights ago, I got thinking about passion.
We’re always told to follow it, yet it often feels like chasing your shadow through a meadow of stinging nettles. Few are born with their passions pre-installed; fewer still ever build a career off them.
But dreams?
Well, we all have those. The problem is…
We cannot keep our mouths shut about them.
I’ve been there many a time, telling friends and family about this “grand vision” I had for my life/career/business, only to see my enthusiasm for it fizzle like a homemade firework.
I don’t know exactly why it happens this way.
It just does.
And after sending enough good ideas to the graveyard the size of Texas, I’ve learned to keep those thick lips of mine shut. Oh, what a difference that has made. It’s hard enough battling your own doubts and demons while pursuing something worthy as it is — let alone the doubts and demons of others.
In any case, it inspired the following microstory that you best believe will be going into Tiny Epics: Vol 2:
"Why do you warn us not to share our dreams?" the young boy asked.
A smile ghosted across the elder's face.
For a heartbeat, something stirred in those glacial eyes. A memory. A triumph. A distant regret. It was too hard to tell, for temperance had long masked his features.
"Dreams are but a fragile ember," the elder finally croaked. "It doesn't matter if the breeze greets it with warmth, coldness, or indifference… The ember dies. Do not give the wind a target."
If you want more microstories that deliver a “shot” of wisdom, emotion, or laughter, then you have 141 to choose from in Tiny Epics: Vol 1.
It is only available at my Storehouse, but on the plus side…
It’s available in ebook and audiobook (and before the year’s out, paperback, too).

P.S. I’m toying with the idea of posting a microstory here in the Legion once per week in lieu of my usual ramblings. Reply back with your thoughts.
