Yesterday was an utterly disgusting day here in the southeast of England.
I have family up north in Newcastle who were complaining bitterly about their pathetic 24 degrees Celsius, which, quite frankly, I don't know whether they just said it to insult me.
Entirely possible.
In any case, it hasn't been fun for us "southern softies."
Especially last night, which was made worse after watching the bore-draw with England vs. Ghana.
On the plus side, I did watch it at the pub with my sister-in-law's partner.
We had hoped England would score, so we'd get soaked in ale, lager, and whatever else took flight…
But the football gods said, "Nu-no" to that.
What did happen was me knocking back more pints than I can remember and more Jack Daniel's than I care to recall. Combine that with a torrid night of sleep, and let's just say I've woken up like a corpse that hasn't fully corpsed yet.
My arms are aching…
The world feels like it's been knocked off its axis…
And every time I chug water, my stomach wants to bring it right back up.
Oh, and it's only expected to peak at 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 Fahrenheit) today.
Yay.
So, what's worse than 96.8 degrees and no AC?
A hangover to accompany it, that's what.
Anyway, I'm in very real danger of sounding like a whiny little you-know-what rather than my characteristically charming self. Though I did warn you I was a stone-hearted narcissist when you signed up.
You know what else I warn people of?
I write fantasy that defies some genre norms.
Don't worry, you won't find shape-shifting wolves turning into chiselled dudes who then go on to proverbially 'plough the field'.
Nor will you find dragons dotting the sky…
Or magic systems that make this hangover of mine a more desirable affair.
