Yesterday was quite the day.
Vast swathes of England and Wales were officially declared in drought. Our fifth heatwave of the year finally kicked off (yay). And we had that small matter of a total solar eclipse—
—Well, that's not exactly true, now is it, Daniel?
(Sigh)
Apparently not!
It appears I am not nearly as pure a soul as I've long been indoctrinating Legionnaires to believe because, technically, we only had 90% coverage here in the British Isles.
Meaning, it was a "partial" solar eclipse — not the full one I foolishly decreed in yesterday's email.
But as I'm in no mood to own my mistakes today, I am going to be petty by batting back that "90% coverage" was a bare-faced, stinking lie sold by the media.
'Stanking, I tell you!
I shouldn't be surprised, though, given how totally inept news stations are at serving up any information on an unbiased plate.
That is one mistake I'm willing to own.
Rookie move.
Needless to say, I risked blindness for what I wholeheartedly believe was 70% coverage at best — and that's being generous. So while it irked me that I didn't get to experience the "full" eclipse like Spaniards did, I am sure thankful for how good cameras are these days.
Honestly, some of those images were simply… breathtaking.
Spooky, too.
In one of the clips I watched, someone made the (wise) comment, "This is the universe reminding us who's boss."
And you know what?
I totally agree with him.
We can manipulate Mother Nature; we can bend the rules she kindly asks us to follow, but one thing we cannot do is outright abuse her without a good 'ol spanking.
She ALWAYS has the habit of rebalancing the scales eventually.
Let's just hope humanity can kick that recycled can far down the road — or at least until Book 7 of The Divided Region is published.
Readers of the series will NOT want to miss this epic conclusion.
