As I write this, Laura is manically packing the boys' clothes into a suitcase in preparation for our 700-mile round trip to Newcastle.
You're probably wondering what on earth could possibly be so important to lure us southern softies up north, and if your first thought was a vacation…
THINK AGAIN.
From what forecasts show, it's going to be cold, wet, and windy for the next four days, so certainly no vakay weather.
No, the reason we're leaving our warm hideout is that it's actually my grandad's 80th birthday.
He's been dreading this day since he turned 70, so I suspect our visit will entail copious amounts of Jack Daniel's, cigars, and one too many trips down memory lane.
Alas, it's only for the weekend.
Before we know it, Monday will swing around, and we'll be making the 350-mile drive back home.
God help us.
Thankfully, I've already got some audiobooks in the dock for the journey; namely, Red Rising, Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, and a couple of nonfiction titles.
All I can say is:
Thank the heavens for audiobooks!
Otherwise, Laura would be forced to listen to my Lord of the Rings playlist for several hours, which would, at best, end in relationship counselling.
Or, at worst, my ☠️
