What do you call a series without kinky elves and fae boyfriends?
Have you got an answer?
What about now?
If it's The Divided Region, then…
β
DING! DING! DING!
β
… You answered correctly. π
The question was actually the opening line for one of the ads I ran a few weeks ago that attracted a shed tonne of engagement, and sales, too.
(Greetings to all you fresh recruits who came via that ad. I appreciate your custom.)
In any case, I'm not entirely surprised it got a lot of likes and comments, either.
Not a week seems to go by where there aren't readers lamenting romantasy tropes creeping into their fantasy. While some of these posts are met with youngsters and progressives mocking the OPs for their "archaic tastes," I sympathise with them.
These are, what I call, traditional fantasy readers.
They don't want dark lords in lingerie.
They don't want elves biting their lips and whispering naughty things.
No, what they want is action, adventure, misadventure, world-altering quests, and characters that move us β not our trousers. While they don't mind romantic arcs, they don't need it dominating the main plot line.
You might be asking…
How do I know all of this?
β
Because I am one of these "traditional fantasy" readers.
β
And if you are, too, then rest assured, you'll find no flustered cheeks or steamed-up windows in The Divided Region.
Just a gritty world, imperfect characters, and a whole lotta adventure:
