I sincerely hope you and your loved ones had a great day yesterday.
I write this email with a partial headache and a distended belly as I blaze towards my New Year's goal of owning a ‘Dad Bod’ that makes many a man weep.
In true Boxing Day fashion, I shall be continuing where Christmas Day left off, but I shall be kickstarting it with a little festive tradition of mine…
Watch Gladiator
(The first one, I should add.)
It’s something I’ve been doing for more years than I can count.
So while everyone else is enjoying The Grinch or Harry Potter, I’ll be watching heads get lopped off and men be treacherous to one another.
(I never said I was a normal fellow.)
Maybe it’s just a bloke thing?
Reminds me of a time I saw a meme that said something akin to women love Titanic, men love Gladiator.
Yes, that’s a generalisation.
If that somehow offended you, please make it a New Year’s resolution to get over yourself and have some fun about you.
In any case, every time I watch this movie, it just seems to get better and better, like a fine wine.
I pick up new lines I glossed over before…
New nuggets of wisdom that didn’t land until now…
Moments that “speak to me” which simply couldn’t have in previous seasons of life.
That’s the magic of re-watching — or re-reading — your favourite stories.
That’s the joy.
And it’s something I actively encourage people to do, whether that’s my work or someone else’s.
So if there’s a book you love, or a movie that tugs on something deep within, let the coming lull between now and New Year's be your excuse to dust it off and revisit an old world.
You never know what might leap out at you this time.
And if you’re looking for a fast-paced epic fantasy series you can enjoy now and revisit years later, then you might want to check out The Divided Region.
