Why I didn’t run any Black Friday deals

Unless you live off-grid and don’t access the internet at all — in which case, how the hell did you stumble into this lowly dwelling of ours? — you’ll know we’ve just passed one of the biggest promotional periods of the year.

And you would have noticed your Overlord & Saviour didn’t run any special promotions.

No 50% discounts.

No money-off codes.

No limited-time “grab it while you can” flash sales.

And there are a few very good reasons for that.


First…

I prefer to zig when everyone else zags.

When inboxes are flooded with discounts, deals, and bundles, I’d rather just… not.

Instead, I like to continue sharing interesting (and sometimes questionable) musings, tell stories like the one in my last email, and be the calm voice in a sea of noise.

I mean, why blend in when I can stand out?


Second…

From an economic standpoint, I don’t see the value in slashing the prices of a growing catalogue that is — in my opinion — already priced reasonably.

E-books, at best, will sell for no more than $9.99.

Which is a pittance when you factor in how many months (and in some cases, years) of daily effort can go into just one book.


Third (and most important)…

I don’t want to train Legionnaires to wait for Black Friday, Christmas, Prime Day, or whatever the next global shopping circus is before supporting my work.

That doesn’t mean I don’t run sales.

It just means I do them on my terms.

That might be in the form of a birthday celebration or commemorating a troll who took a shot at the king and missed.

Yes…

I can already see the sneers, hear the gasps, and taste the anger from my dissenters.

“You’re one arrogant sod, Mr Watson.”

Why yes, I am.

“Not everyone has $9.99 to fork out on a book in this economy.” (pauses to sip their $7 Starbucks latte)

So don’t.

“Grr, you’re a real smartass, you know that?!”

Love you, too, boo. 😘

Anyway, hyperbolic conflicts aside, those are the reasons I didn’t run any sales on Black Friday or Cyber Monday this year (and probably never will — though, nobody can predict the future, not even yours truly).

And it’s highly unlikely I’ll run anything for Christmas either (see point #1).

Instead, I’ll continue to flog my already well-priced wares that promise several hours of fun, escapism, and adventure for those who seek it.
