Over the last couple of days, I’ve been having fun with a rather vocal critic of The Divided Region.
By “fun,” I mean turning her digs into free sales for two days straight.
But I won’t be milking her barbed comments for a third time. No, no. Instead, I’m going to share a testimonial I — ironically — received during these heated exchanges that really hit home as to why I do this fiction gig:
I want to say thank you for making these audibooks available, such excellent stories. I'm terminally ill and being able to enjoy such wonderful audiobooks are truly a blessing for me! Thank you.
Sobering words indeed, and ones that left me speechless.
(And it’s rare I’m lost for words. Just ask Lady Laura.)
It not only turned down the volume of my critic, but it amplified the true gift of storytelling: that stories aren’t merely a means of escape. They heal. They shine a light on dark landscapes and bring buoyancy to unthinkable burdens.
I can’t speak for what this gentleman is going through, and I pray a miracle finds him, but the fact that he is choosing to spend what time he has left in this life to listen to my work?
What an honour.
What a responsibility — and one I shoulder proudly.
Comments like this are why I do what I do.
They are also my cue to get my firm, peachy rear into gear and crank out the remaining books of the series. Once The Great Betrayal audiobook is complete (almost there) and my secret project is behind me (launching next week), then it will be all systems go, go, go.
