While some of you will no doubt be firing up BBQs, launching fireworks into the sky, and attending red, white, and blue parades to celebrate your 1776 rebellion, for the rest of the world, it’s business as usual.
Or is it?
You may be celebrating your independence and freedoms today, but so am I.
(Come on, you don’t seriously expect to have all the fun, do you?)
Namely, my independence from retailers like Amazon. Like America and the UK, I still have (mostly) positive relations with Zon. After all, they paved the way for self-publishing back in 2007 and helped launch thousands of authors into the world who otherwise would never have had a chance.
So, credit where credit is due.
BUT…
(You knew it was coming)
They have been less than desirable in recent years.
Discoverability has fallen off a cliff, more and more books appear in Amazon categories they have no business being in, random author account closures are commonplace, and they recently made the decision to cut royalties on paperbacks.
It’s little wonder authors are breaking away from the retailer en masse and planting their proverbial flags in ground they DO own.
Like my Storehouse.
It has been going strong now for nearly two years.
Readers love it and have no trouble downloading my ebooks onto their Kindles or BookFunnel app. I am also able to offer exclusive bundles, audiobooks, and digital artwork that would never have been possible if I remained at the mercy of Amazon.
Like the USA, I don’t want a distant daddy telling me what I can and can’t do.
I want my own identity. My own culture. My own governance.
How does the saying go?
