For me, movie soundtracks are just as important as the stories themselves.
Particularly when it comes to fantasy and sci-fi.
A good one elevates everything about the motion picture.
It sucks me in, ignites my senses, and yes… occasionally wets my eyes (but don’t tell Lady Laura that). Over the years of racking up more hours than I’d like to admit watching movies, I’ve distilled my most-loved soundtracks into this short list.
And if you’re a long-standing Legionnaire…
You’ll already have a good idea which movie will snag the #1 spot.
So, with no further ado, here are my all-time favourite movies for soundtracks (starting from #5):
5. The Lord of the Rings (soundtrack by Howard Shore)
4. Dune (soundtrack by Hans Zimmer)
3. Blade Runner (soundtrack by Vangelis)
2. Interstellar (soundtrack by Hans Zimmer)

- Gladiator (soundtrack by Hans Zimmer) — Elysium and Now We Are Free being the most goosebump-rendering of tracks
I know what some of you are thinking, but I can assure you Hans Zimmer hasn’t stuffed my pockets with Benjamins, nor the promise to provide the soundtrack for The Divided Region when it eventually hits the big screens.
Simply put:
They are spellbinding (as are the movies they accompany).
Who knows, perhaps one day the great Zimmer himself will give me a call.
