Outside of movies, dinners, and vacations, there isn’t much I don’t enjoy doing alone.
I swear, I’m an extrovert…. NOT! 😉
However, there is ONE thing I do hate doing alone, and it has nothing to do with leisurely experiences.
That thing?
Making decisions.
But just so there’s no mistake here:
I’m not talking about the things that have little to no impact on my life (like dithering back and forth over what to eat tonight, what show to watch, etc.). I’m bumping my gums about the BIG decisions.
You know, the ones that, if you make a bad call, will take a pound of your flesh.
Those are the decisions I hate making alone.
Not because I find the whole ordeal overwhelming, but rather I appreciate different perspectives.
While I take the 30,000-ft view approach to most things in life, the problem with this wonderfully scenic vantage point is that I usually end up overlooking the small stuff that can make a world of difference down the line.
That’s why I usually consult with at least one person experienced in the matter — not my mother, father, or little old Doris down the road (unless, of course, it’s something they have more than a lick of experience in).
Someone who is qualified in the area enough to voice a reasonable opinion.
Admittedly, this isn’t always readily available in my circle, so I will have to seek paid advice, but sometimes it is worth its weight in Roman coins as it gives me a confidence and clarity I cannot alone conjure.
It’s also why — after a devastating event in Chapter 3 of The Great Betrayal — Darius is forced to convene an urgent council with senior nobles and wizards of Vlencia.
Among revelations that stun many into silence, not everyone agrees on the points discussed, but it does provide nuance.
Nuance he would’ve sorely lacked if his Hand hadn’t convened the meeting.
However, there is one idea that sparks all manners of controversy that not only stirs a tonne of opposition but ignites genuine concern of mutiny that could threaten Darius’ fragile tenure should he go ahead with his plan.
