… A good book, that is.
There are plenty of duds floating around in the marketplace, which — before the social book warriors pick up their pitchforks — of course, is subjective.
There is no shortage of readers who haven’t enjoyed my musings over the years.
But for the sake of semantics, let’s just go with a book you enjoyed.
Why should you re-read it?
For the simple reason that you’ll pick up stuff you stepped over in the first read-through.
As is true for the third, fourth, and, if you’re a true lover of the tale, a fifth time.
The same is true for movies.
I make a point of blocking out a day in December to rewatch my favourite films — a ritual I’ve been doing for a decade or more now. So while everyone brews themselves a steaming hot chocolate and settles down to watch The Grinch, I am rewatching Maximus discover his wife and son hanging from his ashen home for the 20th time.
🤷
Seasoned Legionnaires will know nothing melts my stone of a heart quite like a story laden with grit, suffering, and bursts of heroics.
It’s why I wrote The Divided Region.
It’s why, despite saying I intend to conclude the series with a sixth instalment, it might very well extend itself to the seventh.
I guess I love the world of Estos and its unscrupulous characters too much.
If you happen to share the same feelings about the series, then there is no doubt in my mind you’re going to want to re-read The Great Betrayal in the coming months and years.
Lots happen in this sequel. Too much to list off in an email alone.
But in the spirit of attempting hard things, I’ll try my hand:
- Old haunts are visited… (no, I’m not just talking about the Forbidden Forest)
- Revelations are had… (Balthazar was onto something)
- Painful sacrifices are made… (we’ll be saying goodbye to some beloved characters)
- Vlencia is no longer safe (you’ll see in Chapter 3)…
- And a whole lot more that would benefit from a re-read or two.
Sadly, you’ll have to wait until this Saturday to get your hands on it (I know, I know, waiting is never fun), but do you know what you CAN do in the meantime?
You guessed it.
Read (or re-read) Books 1-4 of The Divided Region, which you can oh-so happen to find here:
