Picture this:
You wake up to a bright, sunny day. You’re well-rested and feeling—dare I say it—optimistic about the day ahead.
While waiting for your coffee to brew, you whip out your phone, clear your notifications, maybe pop into your inbox (to see if your Overlord and Saviour has mailed anything—good sport), and set your phone down.
Still, the coffee isn't done.
“Screw it,” you declare, picking the phone back up and nosing into your favourite social media app—despite pledging you're taking a break from it all.
After just seven seconds of scrolling, you're already hit with posts from strangers wielding hooks that trigger you.
“Trump this, Trump that. The wealthy elites this, the wealthy elites that.”
In under a minute, you go from optimistic to annoyed.
Rested to agitated.
And now… the rest of your day feels off.
That’s the state of social media.
AND IT’S ALSO WHY I’VE TAKEN A LONG BREAK FROM TWITTER.
I’ve got nothing against the platform itself—or Elon—or even the things people are irate about (however comical they might be). Actually, I’m the one to blame. I engaged with the wrong content, and now my feed is a minefield of triggers I’ve neither the time nor desire to clean up.
So, for the Hawkeye Legionnaires among us—that’s why you can’t see my Twitter handle in the Post Email Menu anymore.
Will it ever be reinstated?
Most probably.
I’m no great advocate of social media, but I can’t deny the reach it offers authors (or any business, really).
But for now? I’m happy going about my life without it.
The Legion is my social media.
FICTION IS MY ESCAPE.
