I hate winter. 🥶
It’s my least favourite season of all, especially here in the UK. And it seems my disdain for the frigid mornings, grey clouds, and constantly living in 2-3 layers isn’t an isolated one.
Some 70% of Brits also think the weather here is soul-sucking.
I am fully aware there are North Americans in the Legion who have to suffer far worse conditions. I’ve even heard whispers that our friends across the pond have to shovel the snow from their property’s pavement (sidewalk) or else risk a fine.
And I thought I lived under a dictatorship!
As cruel as those conditions might be, it fails to ignite a single spark of gratitude within me.
My hatred is too deep.
I suppose it goes back to the old adage of:
The worst thing that has ever happened to you is the worst thing that ever happened to you.
And for me, UK winters are the worst.
Nothing kills my libido to eat well, exercise, and yes, even write, more than this dreary, depressing season which always seems to start early and end late.
Each time I hear the rain pattering against the glass pane, I willingly torture myself by consulting the weather app to see what temperatures my future neighbours are enjoying over on the Island of Love (also known as Cyprus).
15 degrees they get most days. Sometimes 18+.
In “winter”.
That’s Celsius, by the way.
I’m sure if I plopped Jon Snow on the island, he’d declare that winter is most definitely NOT coming to Cyprus any time soon. But you know who will eventually? Lady Laura, Master Liam, and myself.
While I cannot sadly bring my loyal Legionnaires with me, you will no doubt benefit from this move immensely.
All that extra vitamin D?
That will translate into steadier, more consistent writing days.
Steadier writing days = more of the books you love to read.
I can already smell the parchment as I blaze through manuscripts. I can already hear the cheers from Legionnaires for swift sequel releases. And yes, as your Overlord and Saviour, I can also taste the sweetness of global expansion.
The UK has been conquered.
